Editorial policy

The people who run the COOWOZ catalog write the pages on coowoz.org. This is how a fact ends up on one.

Sizes, capacities and pockets

Measurements, capacities in liters, weights, laptop sizes and the list of pockets come from our own product data. When two descriptions of the same bag disagree, we print the more careful figure or leave the figure out.

The photographs and the home page film show our bags. Pictures with slogans, arrows or size charts printed over them are kept off the site.

What we do not claim

We say what a bag is made of, how big it is and what it holds. We do not promise that a bag passes every airline's gate check, we do not call a water-resistant fabric waterproof in a downpour, and we do not say how long an insulated pocket keeps food safe beyond what our product data states.

Guides and sources

The size check and the journal cite airlines and public bodies where their rules come up: carry-on limits, what goes through security, food safety and how heavy a child's backpack should be. We read each source before citing it, and the date we read it is printed beside it. This is general information about bags. Airlines set and change their own size limits, so check yours before you fly. For a child, keep a loaded backpack light and worn on both straps, and pack food that must stay cold with an ice pack.

If a measurement, a color or a sentence here is wrong, write to underseat@coowoz.org. We correct the page and the product data behind it.
